Men’s sexual health supplements are a dime a dozen, but why do you take pill-shaped tonics when you can include the nutrients that raise libido in your regular meals? Whether you’re looking for ways to improve your sperm motility, a natural erectile dysfunction remedy, or special foods to restore your libido, check out our food selection to work on your diet and boost your mojo.

Walnuts

If family and weight-loss medicine physician Dr. Spencer Nadolsky had to prescribe a single food for men’s health, he’d choose the humble walnut. Not only does it enhance sperm viability, motility and morphology in healthy young men, it also improves endothelial function (the protection of the lining of our blood vessels). In addressing endothelial function, we typically think of cardiovascular disease, but it is also associated with erectile dysfunction. Foods that improve endothelial function expand the blood vessels and can thus aid with erections. Walnuts are also high in essential fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), vitamins, magnesium, and more.

Watermelon

This deliciously juicy red fruit is filled with citrulline, which can relieve erectile dysfunction, particularly if high blood pressure causes it. Citrulline is converted into arginine, which increases the natural nitric oxide production. And nitric oxide has the advantage of increasing blood flow to muscle tissue as well as male genitalia, improving male sexual function.

Peaches

Not only are peaches tasty, they are a good choice for sperm motility due to their high content of vitamin C, says fitness nutrition expert Joey Thurman. “A study came out that showed that people who for most of their lives were smokers who increased their consumption of vitamin C… and were considered fertile became fertile,” he explained. Therefore, vitamin C reduces the cortisol stress hormone. Cortisol and testosterone can get out of control easily, and, according to Thurman, the higher your cortisol levels will be, the lower your testosterone levels. “These two hormones interact with each other,” he says, and may your cortisol will help improve your testosterone.

Oysters

If you’re a gym rat, listen: “As athletes, we’re losing a lot of zinc,” says Dr. Spencer Nadolsky, a medicine physician for health and weight loss. “There are rumors that athletes do not get enough zinc, and if you have a zinc deficiency, you may have lower testosterone issues than normal.” Make it up by consuming zinc-rich foods like oysters that contain more zinc than any other food type. If you’re not in oysters, fish, lobster, nuts, beans and whole grains can also help you meet your zinc needs.

Berries

“Berries are rich in antioxidants thus is beneficial for cardiovascular status. ” says Dr. Karl Nadolsky, physician and endocrinologist, who points out that improved cardiovascular and cardiometabolic health contributes to better hormonal health. Research shows that berries tend to have cardioprotective effects that maintain normal artery function and blood pressure, slow atherosclerosis progression and mitigate the adverse effects of free radicals.

Leafy Greens

Leafy greens are packed with nutrients, but they’re not all full of them. These are also filled with magnesium. ” Magnesium dilates the blood vessels, this is how viagra basically works as well— increase blood flow to the male genitalia to get a stronger erection,” says Joey Thurman, fitness nutritionist. So put on the spinach and kale and sprouts in Brussels. Any green leafy vegetables like cabbage and swiss chard will also do the trick.

Full-fat Dressing

Not only do magnesium-rich greens increase blood flow to areas down in your trousers, they are a perfect base for booting a delicious salad. Also make sure you have some healthy fat in your dressing to top them off. “Studies show that addition of healthy fat to your salads allows you to consume lycopene and nutrients in general,” says fitness nutrition expert Joey Thurman, so avoid the low-fat and no-fat salad dressings and choose the full-fat version instead to get the most bang for your buck. And make your own clothing: it’s wonderful to mix olive oil with the same amount of balsamic vinegar.

Egg yolk

Vitamin D is important for regulating testosterone levels, and egg yolks are filled not only with vitamin D, but also with loads of other nutrients: calcium, folate, phosphorus, vitamin B12 and selenium. But if you’re not looking for egg yolks, opt for fatty fish (salmon and tuna) or fortified milk and orange juice.

Chocolate

“Every time researched about chocolate and its effect on cardiovascular health and diabetes, they still consider it effective,” says Dr. Karl Nadolsky, physician and endocrinologist, and now you can indulge in moderate amounts of dark chocolate without remorse. It improves your circulation, which can help your genitalia with blood flow, which will improve your erection ability. Also chocolate’s phenylethylamine can affect the brain’s serotonin and endorphin levels
